Wow, it's been too long!

For anyone that actually cares to read my updates, I apologize about the lapse in time. I have had so much going on & just simply haven't had the time to blog. But I'm back & have a lot to catch you up on! For starters, I have not lost any weight since I last blogged about it. I'm pretty bummed, but more determined than ever to hit the treadmill. I also have a Yoga class scheduled twice a week for the whole month & firmly believe that it will help me stay motivated & reach my goals!

Of course it didn't help that we just celebrated Thanksgiving and as usual went ALL out with the food & desserts. My sweet little family of 4 took a road trip to Jacksonville, FL to see family and enjoy the holiday with my ill mom. The time in Florida was amazing and it was so nice to see everyone! Wish I could say the same about the drive :/. We live in Kansas & had to drive 1/2 way across the country in 2 days. My 5 & 4 year olds did pretty good for the most part, but there were times that I was really wishing we had privacy glass between the front & back of the car. We had only gotten 20 minutes into the 20 hour drive when I lost count on how many times I heard "Are we almost there" and "I'm bored". Really?!? They had DVD players, video games, books, coloring books & baby dolls. I knew then that it was gonna be a LONG trip! It was long, but well worth it. We all enjoyed being back "home" & soaking up the Florida sunshine! Now we have a fire going as its in the 30's & raining with snow in the forecast for tonight.

We made it back safely last weekend & have fallen back into our normal routine of school, work & ballet. This weekend we are focusing on getting our Christmas tree & other decorations up! My husbands dad (aka Grandpa) is coming from Florida to visit next week & we're looking forward to seeing him. I love having house guests & I love the holidays so this month is shaping up to be a fabulous one! In fact within the hour we're going to drop the girls off at a friends house & go to my company Christmas party which happens to be a catered brunch (complete with Mimosas) at the Opera House!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful start to the last month of 2011! Wish me luck that I go into the new year minus at least 5 pounds. I suppose that means I have to stay away from the Christmas cookies :) I will blog again soon. Until then...goodbye y'all!

Playing Catch Up

I haven't posted anything in a while, so I'm playing catch up on the last few days. For starters, my 30 day challenge ended up being more like a 15 day challenge because I have fallen off the wagon in a BIG way! I did great for 2 weeks & then no coincidence that when I stopped blogging (& holding myself accountable) I slipped. For example, yesterday was my youngest daughter's Birthday. She turned 4 & had her choice of anything she wanted for dinner. She chose pizza (go figure) so I ordered my girls pepperoni & ordered myself (my hubbs was gone on Army business & missed the birthday) a new artisan spinach & feta from Dominos...Amazing by the way, but I ate way too much. I have also eaten large, fattening breakfasts twice this week. I usually don't eat breakfast (coffee only), but we all brought in a little something in honor of Boss's Day on Monday & I took my daughter to breakfast at I Hop yesterday. I feel disgusting this week because of my poor choices & plan to turn things around starting today! I have had coffee only so far & hope to get back on track & not look back!

My 4 year old, Kacey had a great Birthday, but woke up vomiting this morning. My husband, Bill said that no one should have to wake up sick the morning following their birthday until they hit 21. Good point! I'm staying home with her today & watching her rest peacefully. She's so pitiful, hope she feels better soon!

We had a local Chamber function for work Saturday night & it was SO much fun. It was a Vegas themed event & even Bill had a good time. This was the first time he would meet most of my coworkers (including my boss) so he wasn't sure what to expect, but the drinks & conversations were flowing beautifully and the night was a hit. We have a company picnic/bonfire this Saturday for the whole family at a nearby lake. The company is providing the beer & dinner and we just get to bring ourselves and have a great time. Hope my little peanut is feeling better by then because we're all looking forward to it! What a cool company to host such a fun, laid back event!

In a nutshell, things have been good except my eating. My brother & his family just left yesterday to move (they are military too) & it was a sad day for all of us...I'm very close to my brother, his wife & kids! Other than Kacey being sick, the girls are doing great with soccer, ballet & school. Bill & I are better than ever and life couldn't be better. Wish me luck as I continue with the challenge. I think this time I will call it  "my personal best" challenge. That way I don't feel as guilty if I can't uphold all 30 days.

Goodbye y'all!

Oopsie!

Had a great weekend despite the crummy weather & so far the week is off to a good start. Friday night we hosted a "tournament" of Beer Pong (I know, how sophisticated) & had a great time. Saturday, following Mia's soccer game we had plans to meet some friends & go to a nearby pumpkin patch. However the weather ended up taking a turn for the worst immediately following the game (they won 4-1 by the way:) so we made a joint decision to spend the rainy day in - at our friends house & sipped on cocktails throughout the day while the kids enjoyed arts & crafts. It was fun & relaxing, but I screwed up royally on my 30 day challenge. In all fairness, it was day 13 so I'm blaming it on the unlucky factor. My girlfriend made some mini spice loafs with dollops of cream cheese, plus we grazed on Bbq & various random snacks throughout the day. Oopsie!

Yesterday was better. I didn't fit in a cardio workout like I had hoped, but I did eat considerably better than Saturday. I'm off to a good start for the week & hope to fit in a minimum of 3 workouts before the week end.

My quote of the day came from my 5 year old that is learning about different parts of the body in Kindergarten and fell & bumped her head. She said: Mommy, I fell & hit my brain stem. Hmmm...

Goodnight y'all!

Crazy 8's

I'm pretty sure today was one of the weirdest days ever. I can't pinpoint exactly what made it so strange, but things were just wonky all day. Besides a strange day, it also happens to be the 8th day of my 30 day challenge. I must say I did pretty good. I got my littlest munchkin a kids meal from BK & snuck a few fries (my biggest weakness) & a nibble off a chicken nugget, but other than that I was very strong willed! I had a 1/2 of a grilled chicken sandwich with a side salad for lunch & small portion of PF Changs Chinese for dinner!

Tomorrow the plan is to fit in a 30 minute cardio workout & hopefully start back with Yoga later in the week! My bestie, Tarasa is the kind of girl that can make you sick when it comes to her discipline. She looks fabulous because she has stuck with a strict workout regiment for years & almost always eats right (I think she would look fabulous regardless, but she swears it comes with hard work:) I envy her dedication & value her support! I finally feel like I may also be on the right track to a healthy lifestyle. I try not to refer to my challenge as a diet because I'm hoping to continue with the new eating habits & exercise routine from now on...not just until I obtain my goals! You know its bad when your little girl says in front of God & everybody "mommy, your belly looks kinda big...are you having a baby?" Ummm no sweetie - I'm not, but thanks for drawing attention to it!

Along those lines, my new favorite find - Bean Burrito from the diet menu at Taco Bell. It's yummy, filling, low in fat & calories and cheap! If that's your kind of thing, give it a try.

Goodnight Y'all

It's a Wrap

Happy Weekend everyone! It's Saturday night & we just got in from a dinner party with some amazing friends...the Thielmanns. I regretfully did not fit in my workout for today as promised, but I did walk a lot throughout the day with my many errands so I kinda think that counts?! Tomorrow is another day!

Mia had a soccer game today & I love the chat time I get with my friend Amy. Her daughter plays with mine & sometimes it seems there is nothing better for the soul than the relationship you have with girlfriends. They can be your voice of reason in times when you simply need a women's perspective. Don't get me wrong, the friendship I have with my hubbs - Bill is amazing, but girlfriends are different. They are more fun to shop with, they genuinely listen to you when you need a sounding board & they understand the little details that men just don't get! My thought for the day: love your girlfriends...you need them & they need you!

I am calling it a night after my several blueberry martinis and pumpkin cheesecake (low fat!), but I will write more tomorrow. Hope this weekend is a relaxing & productive one for everyone.

Goodnight Y'all!

TGIF

I'm so glad the weekend has officially begun. It has been a typically hectic week & I have a beer in the sun room mini fridge calling my name. I actually picked out Bud Light Lime for the first time & am excited to try it. Yep, that's what my weekends have been reduced to...a night in with the highlight being a new beer to sample. I would not change one thing about my life though, not one! If someone showed up at my door with a time machine and offered me a million dollars to step in and go back to my twenties, I would tell them a giant "thanks, but no thanks". I may be getting older, have a few laugh lines starting to show, have traded my nights out on the town for nights in with Crayola and Barbie, but I can honestly say I wouldn't have it any other way. I LOVE my life, I LOVE my husband & I LOVE my girls! The only thing I don't love is my body weight.

With that said, I am on day 5 of my 30 day challenge and other than the Bud Light Lime calling my name, I have done really well with the calorie intake! I am DONE for the day so I won't be fitting in a work out (other than my arm muscles as I raise my drink), but I will be running at least 30 minutes tomorrow!

The thought for the day: Laziness should be considered a disease. It not only affects you, but everyone around you. I have zero tolerance for capable people that want handouts & expect others to do for them. Get off you a$$ & do it yourself! You will not only be appreciated by others for stepping up, but you can then appreciate yourself.

On that note, I'm off to the back deck to be lazy, relax & enjoy a beer with my hubbs. Goodnight y'all!

Not just for weight loss updates

I made it sound as if the only thing I would be blogging about is my weight loss challenge updates. Not true...I have so much more to share with you! My thought for the night: I have the BEST friends & family. There are times when I want to disown some of them (lol), but at the end of the day I am surrounded by some amazing people in my life!! You know who you are!

Quote of the day: Me - May I speak with Leslie?
Receptionist - She's unavailable, can I take a message?
Me- Yes, my name is Sarah and my number is 785 (interrupted)
Receptionist - Oh, you want her to call you back???
Me- Yep, that's why I'm leaving a message.

Pshhh...Really?!

Goodnight y'all!

Introduction

This is my first posting on this particular blog spot. I am a happily married Mother of 2 beautiful daughters. I was a housewife/stay-at-home mom (aka domestic goddess) for over seven years until I decided to join the workforce again June of 2011. I am an Advertising Account Executive & a proud military wife of a Blackhawk Pilot in the US Army. My children are in Kindergarten & Preschool & we are all about spending quality time together as a family!
My oldest daughter is a soccer player which makes me the typical "Soccer Mom" and both of my daughters enjoy ballet & will soon start tap. Needless to say as with most moms, my schedule stays full. I have seen both spectrum's of mommyhood - the full time working mom shuffling kids around to school & practices and the stay at home mom and can honestly say that there is not an easy choice. They're both difficult yet very rewarding!
I am on day 4 of a 30 day weight loss challenge. My "baby weight" has been an issue for me since my soon-to-be 4 year old was born & I am finally stepping away from denial and realizing that you can't blame baby weight 4 years later. I have decided to put an end to this weight fluctuation once & for all! This blog is a means for me to hold myself accountable for my actions in hopes of making it through this challenge with a skinnier me & an overall healthier lifestyle.
Thanks for reading & please feel free to join if you like what you see. I will update regularly (including pictures of before & after.) Stop by any time to check out my stories on "told by sarah"
